A Date with Hudser-Budser

Tuesday, Brooks was in Manhattan at a golf tournament all day, so Hudson (or as I like to call him: Hudser-Budser) and I had a special date day! Here are some of the things that we did:

We went to the library. After picking out four books, Huds wanted to play. This is what we built:

We then went to Sonic to get drinks for our picnic in Peter Pan Park (a very magical place!). I packed apples, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, carrots and chips. Neither one of us ate the chips and I was the only one who ate the carrots! Will know better next time!

Of course, after lunch, we just had to play for a while on the fantastically huge playground.

We were hot and tired after playing so hard. Definitely time for some Braums ice-cream! yummh...

The zoo was next on our agenda. What a fun place!

When we finally went back home, we played some mariokart wii and relaxed. What a fun day!

Meet My Boys!

As most of you know, this summer I am a nanny for two boys. Brooks (8) is on left and Hudson (4) is on the right.

One of their favorite things to do is golf. Hudson knows more about golf than I do! (For instance, I had know idea that there were multiple kinds of clubs. I just always assumed one did the trick.) I am learning lots. The other day I got to drive the boys around on the family golf cart! (A great story for another time!) Here are a few pictures snapped at the country club while the boys were practicing on the driving range.

a visit from an old friend ... Einstein!

Becca Ladish, an old MK (missionary kid) friend from BF (Burkina Faso) came down from Kansas City a couple of weekends ago to hang out. We had a blast. One of the highlights from the weekend was a 2-hour walk we took one afternoon/evening. We went up and down the streets of Emporia looking at all of the fun houses. Here are some things we love:
- doors
- window shutters
- cool verandas that would make peaceful/quaint spots for a QT (Quiet Time = time with the Lord.) This would include screened-in porches--especially handy in Kansas where there are bugs
- iron gates
- brick or stone anything
- vines crawling up the brick or stone
- lampposts
- window seats
- houses that are set back from the road with big trees in the front lawn and beautiful gardens in the back
- porch swings
- American flags

One thing Becca and I have in common (besides being MK's from BF) is our rampant imaginations. We had a story/situation for every house. Imaginations do make the most lovely conversations. Many of the houses made us think of some of our all-time favorite books: Anne of Green Gables by L. M. Montgomery.

Sorry, the pictures are not the best. I was a little sketched out by the idea of someone catching me taking a picture of their house, so took them really fast! :)

Oh...and I call Becca, Einstein...long story. We struggled coming up with a good picture of the two of us together. But, here you go:

quick thought ... in Puritan form ...

Thou art my one Sustainer,
The Keeper of my days,
Thou art my Endless Helper,
Deserving all my praise.
