TITLES

I love titles.
It's my favorite part of writing papers.
It's the reason I make facebook photo albums.
It's how I pick out a book in the library. (That, and the cover!)
If the title's good, the poem's good.
If the poem ends up being bad, the author should be sued.
I love making up titles of newspaper headlines and books that don't exist.
It's like naming children....which I have never done.

All this to say, this morning, while walking to work, I came up with a title of an unborn poem.

"The Stillness of the Dead"

Doesn't it sound beautifully dark?
Perhaps the poem will be gothic.
Or ironic.
Or pathetic.
Or romantic.
Or all the above.
But really, there doesn't need to be a poem, because the title says it all.

Have no fears, this newly birthed title has nothing to do with my present state of being.
I am alive.
Check back with me after this week.
This week is entitled "Dead Week" by Emporia State University.
That's a bad title.

  1. I'm glad that the title doesn't reflect your mood...that would have made me sad... Love you!
