Last Saturday some friends and I headed off to the sand dunes that are just on the outside of Niamey.
We had bought schwarma's and were hoping to have a picnic, but the wind kept flinging the dust all over us, our picnic blanket, and our food.
Despite the annoying wind, we had fun performing crazy stunts off the dunes.
Once you fall down, though, you wouldn't believe how hard it is to climb back up to the top.
The sand is so deep!
This little boy was having just as much fun as we were...if not more!
Who says you need snow to go sledding?
Of course, you cannot not go to the dunes without staging a water bottle commercial!
So close...and yet...so far!
(Bonus points if anyone can name the song title where those lyrics are pulled from!)
A few more sights from our expedition:
The Niger River in the distance--this is with a lot of zoom.
Aren't my friends beautiful?
And finally...
...a picture of what happens when you roll around in Sahara sand.
Who needs to go tanning when you have the Sahara desert?
By the way, did you know that "dune" is the first big word Sarah, plain and tall, learned when she was little?
