Friday was June 21--the first day of summer and thus the annual Fête de la Musique in Rennes. I, along with a couple of friends, ventured downtown for an evening of music and entertainment. We wandered up and down the streets listening to all kinds of music from jazz, to reggae, to classical.
The first performance we listened to was jazz.
Then, there was a little Gospel choir.
We had to take a little break for supper and I discovered the absolute joy of eating a kebab. Great idea, Mallory!
We ate on the opera steps! (Alex, I should have gotten a picture with you. Next time.)
I discovered something else that evening. Right in the middle of downtown Rennes was a water bar--the healthiest way to drink! And better still, completely free! In all seriousness, little tables were set up where you could have a little bit of rest while enjoying some delicious refreshing water. Apparently the French are all about hydration! Don't worry, parents, I drank in moderation!
After enjoying our little repose, we continued to wander up and down the streets.
We stayed to listen to Christian group who performed songs in several different languages. (It was a YWAM group that was in town for a week.) They also did a couple of dances.
This group sang beautifully. They sang several different songs, but I must say, my absolute favorite was when they, with fabulously French accents, sang "Somewhere Over the Rainbow." Nothing like tugging at my Kansas heartstrings!
It was a fun first evening of summer--coats, scarves, and all! I arrived home at about 22:46 (10:46) with the sun not quite set.
That is so cool that they do that. I wish we had something like that here in the states. Glad your are having fun in Rennes.
